Peter McIlveen, MD, FACOG, ABOM is a board-certified OB/GYN with more than 20 years of medical experience. He offers a complete menu of obstetric and gynecological services at Total Woman Care, a top-rated women’s health practice located in Elkin, North Carolina.
In addition to providing routine preventive care such as annual well-woman exams and disease screenings, Dr. McIlveen specializes in preconception counseling, infertility evaluation, prenatal care, and delivery in routine and high-risk pregnancies, as well as medical and surgical management of gynecological issues.
He was the first physician to offer MonaLisa Touch® Laser therapy to women in the greater Winston-Salem, North Carolina area. This advanced treatment, which is at the forefront of menopause management and gynecology, helps reverse the bothersome vaginal and urinary symptoms that women with low estrogen may experience.
As an expert in uterine ablation, Dr. McIlveen was also the first physician in the Elkin area to perform this beneficial surgery. Additional areas of expertise include advanced laparoscopic surgery, alternative therapies, and menopause management.
Dr. McIlveen has special interests in high-risk pregnancies and infertility. He has had extensive experience with managing high-risk pregnancies, and he has performed research and published literature on high-risk problems. He is well-versed in twin pregnancies. He also has helped many infertile couples achieve successful pregnancies.
His greatest passion as an OB/GYN physician is guiding a woman through labor and delivery, after having been part of the entire pregnancy experience along with the family. For Dr. McIlveen, each delivery is a unique and exciting experience of which he feels privileged to be a part.
Dr. McIlveen completed his undergraduate studies at Duke University, graduating Summa Cum Laude, ranked first in his primary major. After receiving his MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, he went on to complete his medical education at the University of Connecticut, graduating as a Fleeson Scholar and receiving honors in obstetrics and gynecology.
Dr. McIlveen is dual board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology as well as obesity medicine. He’s a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. At Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, Dr. McIlveen is the Chief of Obstetrics & Gynecology and has been Vice Chief of Staff.

In his free time, Dr. McIlveen enjoys spending time with Lucy, his wife of over 36 years, and their three sons, Steven, Thomas, and Christopher. He enjoys raising his family in a small community, and he loves having the opportunity to see his patients out and about in daily life.
