MonaLisa Touch® Q & A

What is MonaLisa Touch®?

MonaLisa Touch® by CynoSure® is a sophisticated vaginal rejuvenation treatment that uses gold-standard fractional CO2 laser technology to revitalize vaginal and urethral tissues. It’s a safe, effective, and non-invasive way to treat vaginal atrophy and prevent its aftereffects without having to turn to messy lubricants, hormone replacement therapy, or surgery.

In just three quick treatments, MonaLisa Touch® can help restore:

  • Trophic balance to tissues
  • Normal vaginal functional
  • Pain-free sexual intimacy

During the procedure, a slim probe is used to help ease the laser into your vagina. As the laser emits gentle pulses of energy into the vaginal wall, it activates collagen renewal and reinvigorates the vaginal mucosa.

How does MonaLisa Touch® work?

The MonaLisa Touch® laser works by making painless microscopic injuries across the surface of your vaginal tissues, which then stimulates your body’s natural healing response.

As the cells in the treatment area begin to reawaken, they’re inundated with collagen, glycogen, and hyaluronic acid — all of the normal elements found in healthy vaginal tissue.

These renewed elements cause your vaginal tissues to plump up and become more hydrated; they also help restore normal vaginal pH, which encourages the return of healthy bacteria and helps reduce the risk of chronic infection.

Am I a good candidate for MonaLisa Touch®?

MonaLisa Touch® laser therapy is primarily designed to help menopausal women who are experiencing vaginal dryness or other urinary symptoms caused by hormone-related changes.

MonaLisa Touch® is just as effective for women who have gone through natural menopause as it is for women whose menopause was surgically induced, and it’s one of the few viable treatment options for women who can’t receive hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

MonaLisa Touch® can help address:

  • Vaginal dryness, burning, or itching
  • Painful intercourse or sexual dysfunction
  • Frequent vaginal infections
  • Stress, urge, or mixed urinary incontinence
  • Chronic urinary tract infections

The treatment can also be beneficial for women who are affected by long-standing vaginal dryness and other hormone-related symptoms following childbirth. Ask the team at Total Woman Care if MonaLisa Touch® is right for you.

What is the MonaLisa Touch® treatment like?

MonaLisa Touch® is an in-office procedure that takes about five minutes. Though most women experience noticeable results following the first treatment, the average woman requires three treatments to achieve optimal results. Each session is spaced six weeks apart to give your tissues ample time to heal.

What can I expect following treatment?

Most women who undergo MonaLisa Touch® laser therapy say it provides significant symptom relief after the first treatment and further relief with each successive treatment.

Because the treatment is painless, non-invasive, and has virtually no side effects, you can resume most normal activities immediately after each session.

It is recommended, however, that you refrain from having sexual intercourse for two or three days after each session as your vaginal tissues heal.

Some women benefit most from having annual follow-up treatments; the team at Total Woman Care will let you know if you should consider annual maintenance treatments.
