Endometriosis The lining of your uterus is called the endometrium. For some women, tissue similar to the endometrium can be found elsewhere in the body. This condition is known as endometriosis, and it can cause pain. For some women the pain becomes debilitating during their menstrual cycles. The endometrial tissue can also attach itself to organs in your pelvis, which eventually may cause scar tissue to form, called adhesions. These adhesions can cause even more pain.
Although the cause of endometriosis in unclear, we know it is most common in women in their 30’s and 40’s, and in those women who have never borne children. Pain is the most common symptom of endometriosis. Some women may also have spotting and difficulty conceiving.
At Total Woman Care attention is placed on properly diagnosing endometriosis, and subsequently developing a customized plan to provide you with treatment. Treatment options include medications and possibly surgery. Medications alone can’t reduce scar tissue and surgery may be needed to reduce adhesions. Our medical staff will work closely with you to help you decide which treatment options would be most suitable for you.
